Dol-llys Farm is on the banks of the young River Severn, just north of Llanidloes. Andrew Evans’ grandfather began the family business in the 1920’s. Andrew, wife Janet and son Richard, one of their four children, now farm a total of 550 acres spread over 3 farms, that include fields up to 1200’ above sea level that have spectacular views across the Clywedog Reservoir to the mountains beyond.
They have a beef herd of 70 suckler cows in total, which includes 30 pure bred Herefords. Andrews’ grandfather used to keep Herefords on the farm, including a cow that won best in breed at The Royal Show and the Royal Welsh Show back in the 1960’s. These were later sold. When Richard became interested in the breed, he and Andrew traced the bloodlines and were able to buy descendants of that prize -winning cow, to bring back to the farm.
These Hereford cattle will go into Cambrian Beef.
They also have a flock of 1000 breeding ewes, mostly Welsh Mules and Suffolk Welsh crosses.
Andrew and Janet also run the thriving ‘Dol-llys Farm Caravan and Camping Site’ that was started by Andrews’ parents more than 25 years ago.
