Vincent and Marion Jones, sons James and Aneurin
Vincent Jones’ parents bought Bryn-yr- hesglwyn Farm, on the slopes above Nant Cydros a few miles south east of Llanidloes, about 40 years ago. Vincent and wife Marion were both born within sight of the farm, which they now run with their sons James and Aneurin. They expanded three years ago by joining with Vincents’ brother to add another farm across the valley bringing their holding up to 450 acres.
They have a herd of 60 purebred and pedigree Saler cows which they cross with Charolais and Saler sires to produce the beef cattle that will go into the scheme. These will spend the warmer months grazing on pastures that range from 1000’ to 1800’ above sea level.
They also have a flock of 500 breeding ewes, Welsh and Aberdale, and supply farm assured Welsh lamb to a quality national retailer.
The farm is part of Glastir Advanced, the higher level of the Welsh governments’ sustainable land management scheme, and has an area of oak woodland ‘Coed Craig Iar’ which is an SSSI.
